The Obama administration is preparing to throw more sanctions at
Iran over their nuclear program.
The
U.N. Security Council has already imposed three rounds of sanctions on Iran because they are suspicious of Irans intentions and fear that they may try and rework some of their plants to take low-grade uranium and turn it in to weapons grade uranium for possible nuclear weapons. Iran has called numerous times for the total destruction of
Israel and nuclear weapons would be the perfect tool for the job.
The U.S. has to tread carefully though, as many countries including China and Russia are opposed to new sanctions as they rely on Iran for much of their energy needs. Russia appears to be a little warmer to the idea.
Clearly, we can't wait indefinitely, and our partners are talking about the need to discuss additional steps in the U.N.,"Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was quoted as saying.
Iran's continued defiance of the U.S. and it's bold statements shrugging off the possibly that the Obama administration is willing to take any real action against the country despite it's repeated threats to U.S. allies in particular Israel. The Israelis have been talking frequently and appear to be preparing to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran if it's nuclear programs are not halted. Israel believes that Iran's true intentions are to develop nuclear weapons and use them against Israel.
